How I Vibe Coded a Replacement for Github Classroom

At the start of the summer, Github announced the end of life to their Classroom App. (effective August 31).  As someone who relied on this application to manage my github organizations and repositories, I wanted a replacement app that would do the things I used the app for.  Not knowing the web in a deep way meant relying on AI to help me with this process.   This talk is my first attempt at using AI as a coding tool, the good, the bad and the costs.  Note: If you are interested, I’m happy to point you to the app.. but it is very much in alpha.

Making Creative Projects With Pickcode

In this session, we’ll use Pickcode’s online IDE to build creative projects in Python and Java. With a free Pickcode account, students and teachers can write code utilizing popular graphics libraries such as Turtle, Pygame, Processing, p5.js, and JavaFX. We’ll explore different strategies for engaging students in these kinds of assignments, including using third party AI tools to write code that students can leverage for creating more advanced projects. This workshop won’t cover the paid teacher features in Pickcode Pro, but Charlie will be available after the session if you’re interested in learning more.

Exploring Data Science and AI in ICS3U

In this session we will explore how you can help students build on their fundamental Python coding skills to explore data science and artificial intelligence topics using Python in Grade 11 Computer Science. 

We will explore data using Python libraries Numpy and MatplotLib using some of the resources available from (API CAN CODE – University of Maryland). Online tools such as Google Colab and Pickcode were used throughout this new unit.

AI topics will be explored by reusing and extending curriculum resources from Experience AI adapted for the classroom and the Grade 11 Ontario curriculum.
