Beyond the Syntax: Preparing High School CS Students for the Reality of AI
Generative AI has fundamentally changed how code is written, analyzed, and taught. For secondary educators, this shift poses a critical question: How do we prepare high school students for post-secondary CS programs when the foundational methods of creating software are being rewritten?
This session brings together a panel of distinguished university and college Computer Science and Educational faculty to bridge the gap between high school preparation and higher education realities.
Panelists will explore how introductory post-secondary courses are adapting to this new landscape. Attendees will gain actionable insights into what post-secondary institutions expect from incoming students, how to structure high school CS tasks to emphasize problem solving and computational thinking rather than AI dependency, and how to foster academic integrity while building essential Computer Science and AI fluency skills.
